Mini blinds

I have two white mini blinds, unused, cut to 21" (width) X 48" (length). I got them cut at the store and brought them home to realize that they aren't long enough. But you can't return them once they are cut so... FREE to a good home :D  All the bits and bobs included.

First person to ask gets them.

interior paint question

Just moved into a new house that's been recently renovated and of course when we moved in we scuffed some of the paint on the walls, the brand they used was "pittsburgh" paints, anyone know where in the city this brand is sold? thanks in advance.

Fireworks?

I haven't been able to find any info online as to whether there are any fireworks going on tonight.  Does anyone know if there are any going on?

I found a grey & white kitty outside my mums building about 27 hours ago and she's still outside (I'm sitting outside with her), I think she's female, no tattoo, skinny (fed her some cat food earlier), about a year old. Would anyone like to adopt her? She's super friendly and sweet. Always following me and wanting to cuddle. I feel so bad leaving her outside but my mum won't adopt her (already has a cat) Here are some pics My mums building is off Pembina, super close to the Victoria Hospital. My number is 887-5072 (text or call anytime). (Name is Ashley) I have to keep her outside so if I can't find her then I can't do anything. :( I left her lots of food and water though

Converse Knock-offs

hey winnipeg!

Just wondering if anyone has seen converse knock-offs (the hi-tops, specifically) in stores anywhere recently? I need a pair for painting and customizing, hence not getting the pricey real-things.

I haven't seen them in a while, but I also don't really know where to look, so any help would be awesome. (A coworker mentioned they could be at The Bay, any confirmation?) Thanks!

long weekend

My friend and I want to kinda drive around aimlessly in Manitoba and explore it a little bit (check out some nice parks ... or super awesome restaurants that we dont have in the city) we don't really know where to start. Can anyone suggest anything in like Portage, Brandon, Steinbach or any other city/town in Manitoba? I'd love to hear your suggestions.

Restaurant

I'm looking for a new go-to restaurant. Problem is I'm not looking for anything in particular. I don't care if the place is a family style restaurant, or a whole in the wall kind of diner. What I do care about is price and good quality food (aka that you aren't paying $20 for a tiny plate with little food). Area of the city doesn't matter. Type of food doesn't matter either. Suggest away!

Also I'm looking for a place that has a particular dish. I was recently in the states and had a Cajun chicken Alfredo pasta at a chilis. Now I don't believe we have a chilis here (please correct me if I'm wrong), so I'm looking for a place that for sure (not might) have a Cajun chicken Alfredo pasta. Does anybody know of anywhere and possibly the price?
A little while ago I had a tattoo of a word done.  It was four letters and not a hard piece to do at all for what I requested, but unfortunately most of the lines turned out in different thicknesses and uneven 'dots' where it looks like maybe the artist pressed down too hard?  I paid quite a bit for the tattoo, the place's standard fee for an hour's work, but the piece took only twenty if that.  The problem is, the artist will do a touch-up, but I'm scared that he may just make the original worse.  I did shake a lot while I was having the tattoo done as it was on a very sensitive piece of my arm, so I'm wondering if that caused the poor-ish outcome?  I've seen the guy's work and he looks like a good artist, so I'm at a loss as to what to do here.  I'd appreciate anyone's opinions.  Thank you!

Babies!

Hey Winnipeg,

I just found out that I'm pregnant with twins! My SO and I have decided to go with cloth diapers since disposable ones are so expensive for such a long time and very wasteful (our other kid just got out of them). Is there anywhere in Winnipeg we can go check some out or is it better to order them online? I'd prefer to buy them locally if possible! Thanks. :)

If you have any insights to using cloth vs disposable I'd love to hear. I have no experience with cloth diapers and I'm not sure what's coming my way with using them.

Give away weekend

EDIT: Daaaang, 1 hour and dishwasher is gone! There's still lots of dishes and things though.

There may (or may not, depending on how fast you are!) be a working portable dishwasher on Arlington between Ellice and Sargent for Give Away Weekend.

Also some other stuff.

Quick tattoo

I know someone recently posted about good places to get a tattoo in Winnipeg, and I'll definitely be calling some in the morning, but I also would like to pose the dreaded question of: is there any place in Winnipeg that does a good job and doesn't have a waiting period? I'm only in town through Tuesday and I really want to get one done here. I'm looking at something like this, small, and on my foot. My other two tattoos were done in NYC and LA, so I literally just walked right in and had no problems getting it done. I realize that may not be the case here, without getting something that bleeds and morphs and what have you, but thought I'd at least ask some knowledgeable folks to see if anyone has a suggestion. Thank you!

Looking for Photography Backdrops.

Hi Winnipeggers!

I'm looking for a selection of Photography Backdrops of this size:

Width: about 47.24" (1.2 meter)
Height: about 78.74" (2 meter)

In colour. Art fabric. I'd like some indoor and outside scene selections.

Any ideas where to acquire such? Or have it made for a reasonable price?

Thanks so much!

I need to have a pair of headphones repaired (cat chewed through the cable)

Any recommendations of a good place to get this done? I am willing to pay up to $50 or so... They are expensive headphones.

I tried fixing them myself with the wire-wrappin' technique, to no avail. I simply am not savvy enough.

Pork Ribs

Hi Winnipeg,
Is there any place in Winnipeg that prepare pork ribs without boiling it first?
Common locations such as Tony Roma's, AppleBee's, Montana's are preparing it in a described way.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Debit/credit card scam in the exchange!

See This reddit article I wrote for full details.
If you use your card for purchases in the Exchange, keep an eye on your bank statements for the next few weeks! (it's ALWAYS a good idea to check them every month at a minimum!)

People that know the banking industry: there's more! )

Hi Winnipeg!
Is there a place in this city I can buy inexpensive Canada touristy t-shirts? Not $15 t-shirts from the Forks. Any help would be appreciated.

Lost Cat! -- Has been found! (edited May 3rd)

NO LONGER MISSING! :D He has been found!

[Information removed.]

Thank you. :)
Since I will be doing some traveling within the next few months, I am needing to get a new phone to take with me (to be able to make the odd call back to Canada, and to be able to use locally in the countries I'll be in). I've been told my best option is to get an 'unlocked quad-band' phone, and then buy a Sim Card and pay as you go minutes in each country I go to. So, therefore I don't want a contract or anything. Where can I buy such a phone for relatively cheap?

Thanks!

Stray dog

Hey, if someone is missing a dog, there was a boxer/bully type dog with mixed colours running around Springfield and Karen street going North in North Kildonan. The dog was scared and we were unable to catch him. :(

I'm going out in my car to try again...wish me luck.

ETA: Found him, got him home, everyone's happy.

Wii consoles?

Hey Winnipeg - I need two Wii consoles for a corporate event on Monday. Anyone know where I can find two that I can rent? Or buy for über cheap? Thanks!

Apartments

I know people always get sick of posts like this, but I'm really having a hard time finding an apartment that doesn't break the bank. I'm not fussy really I'm just looking for something that's under $750 for a 1bdrm and that isn't a crack shack. Close to obsorne/corydon/grant/pembina ish areas is preferred because I'm going to u of m and don't have a car. Any ideas are helpful. Thanks!

Suggestions for Going Away party venue

I'm looking for suggestions for places to have a small Going Away party. It will most likely be on a friday night. I'm looking for a place where 10-15 people can sit together, and not crazy loud so we can hear each other talk. (My definition of crazy loud is a live band playing or obnoxiously loud music - regular busy pub volume is fine). I like lounges/pubs, and was originally thinking of going bowling, except my friends aren't all the most prompt people and getting people to arrive at the same time I can see being a challenge.
Will any lounges/pubs take reservations on a friday night for a group of that size?
(Would prefer somewhere downtown, osborne, corydon, or st. james.)

Thanks for your help/suggestions!

Hydro

This is my first time living in an apartment and having to pay hydro. I've usually had it included in the rent. I live in a one bedroom apartment, by myself, and my bill is $70. It seems a little high to me although I do have my TV on a lot and have put the heat on a bit lately when it was cold.
For people who do pay hydro in their apartments, is this high or around normal? Can you actually read the meter in some apartment buildings so you pay less? I'm really not sure how any of this works.

Thanks for any help.

Gift Idea

One of my friends is going to Germany for a co-op for 4 months and I want to give him a going-away gift that'll be thoughtful and functional. I feel like his parents have already hopped on language related gifts (dictionaries, phrase-books, etc) so I'm trying to avoid those kinds of things. Any ideas? Thanks homies!
